These intricate designs are achieved by interweaving the various colors of the vertical and horizontal strands of the rug. This pouf footstool was handmade by local villagers in the Judhpur area, located in the Rajasthan province of India. First, they weave the kilim into the desired pattern, making it to the exact dimensions and then upholster onto the handmade frame. Herat Oriental has been providing beautiful, authentic, handmade rugs and furniture to Worldstock for over 10 years. Worldstock has given us the opportunity to create jobs for over 2,000 local village weavers and artisans, which helps them to greatly support their families. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The community also thrives from rug weaving and furniture production as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the artisans to use in their designs.
